Prep school

I feel like this outfit is, in the words of Charlie Sheen, “winning.”  I wanted a pretty, preppy look and I think I got it.

I picked up this button-down at Goodwill yesterday for a cool $1, and I love it!  It might be the first time I’ve actually been on a mission for something in a thrift store and been able to find exactly what I wanted.  “Pink preppy button-down” was on my mental list when I walked into the store, and lo and behold, I found one!  Loafers were also on my “let’s keep an eye out for good deals this spring” list, and I thrifted this pair yesterday.  They may not be exactly what I pictured, but I think they’re really cute.  So basically, yesterday was a win when it came to my Goodwill trip.  I normally end up buying random, fabulous things when I go thrifting, but I seemed to have more focus yesterday. I got more stuff I’m sure I’ll show you later, and I got Daniel some nice shirts.  I left with two overflowing bags, and I only spent $20.  Thrift stores are awesome.

Maybe it’s that fifteen-year-old preppy girl in me, but I love the look of a nice button-down, don’t you?

*Sidenote – has anyone else had trouble with the sizing of vintage shoes?  I generally wear a 7 1/2 – 8, but these loafers are 9s, and they are also super narrow.  I’ve noticed that a lot of older shoes are really lacking in width.  These pinched my feet quite a bit throughout the day.  Thoughts?

God has blessed me by giving me the opportunity to minister to others.

Just peachy

There’s an antique store right across the street from my house, and my plans for the day included going there to possibly score some vintage fabric.  Since my plans also included an outfit post, I actually took the time to get ready instead of running over in a pair of shorts and a tank.  As I walked across the street at approximately 1:45, I saw that the sign read “Open 10-5 weekdays, Wednesdays 10-1.”  Well, fudge.  Maybe tomorrow.

This dress is from eBay, circa 2006, and today is the first time I’ve worn it outside the house (but sadly, only for a few moments).  When I first discovered eBay, I got a little addicted, and this is one item from a rash of purchases that winter.  It’s vintage, from sometime in the 80’s, but the tag only tells me care instructions and the size, and I have no idea about the brand.  When it arrived, I was a bit disappointed by the sleeves, and I had plans to alter it, but I just never did.  This morning, it called to me, and when I put my big ol’ belt on with it, I thought it looked perfect.

I kept my makeup and hair extremely simple today.  It’s just too hot to bother with tons of products, and I like to keep it low-key in the summer (well, most of the time).  I combed my hair and let it air-dry, then clipped my back my bangs.  I dusted on some bronzer and blush, defined my brows and lashes, slicked on some gloss, and that was it.  I love the peachy glow I ended up with.

Also, let me introduce you to my new loves:

I got these Colin Stuart shoes on clearance for $7.00!  I’ve been looking for shoes like these for months now, and the other day, when I wasn’t on the hunt for them, these jumped out at me.  They’re so perfect.  I’ve been wearing them to add some edge to my feminine dresses.

I ordered this love knot ring from Premier Designs at a jewelry party, and I love it.  The necklace came from Macy’s, and was marked down from $100 to $9.99.  I’m a sucker for anything monogrammed or personalized.  I’ve been wearing these two pieces nearly constantly.  They’re just so simple and pretty.

(A side note –  you might notice that you never see me wear an engagement ring.  The truth is that I have one, and it’s quite beautiful, but a prong came loose and it’s needing to be repaired.  I definitely don’t want to wear it and risk losing the stone!  I just haven’t made it to the jeweler yet, and so I’ve been pairing other rings, most usually a pearl one that Daniel gave me, with my wedding band.)

What I Wore

Another outfit post!  Two in one day.  Here’s what I wore to church this morning:

Posing in the backyard.

Nice big picture, huh?  I mentioned in my last post that my husband and I went shopping last night.  Here’s some of the stuff I scored!  I’d been eyeing this dress at American Eagle for months, but last night I discovered that it was on clearance, plus take an extra 30% off the clearance price, plus an extra 10% off at the register.  I bought it, determined to make it work for fall/winter.  I threw on the same sweater from yesterday (get used to seeing it; I wear it all the time), some brown tights, and the fabulous vintage boots I got at Goodwill last night for $4.  They are cognac leather and they are amazing, but they are also very narrow and they barely fit me.  I was in some pain when this picture was taken.  I can definitely put up with them for just a few hours at a time, though.

You also saw the bag and the bracelets yesterday.  I decided to roll with a vintagey theme today, and so I wore the locket my grandparents (Nan-Nan and Pap-Paw, of course) got for me when I was a baby:

My lovely locket. I will have to remember to use the macro setting next time.

And I wore the signet ring also given to me by my Nan-Nan.  It belonged to my great-grandmother, whose name was Letha, so it has a lovely L (though you can’t see it here):

My ring!

I also picked up a vintage trench at Goodwill for $3:

My new trench.

I’m pretty pleased with it!  It’s in really good condition.  At some point, I might replace the buttons and buckles to give it a bit more oomph, but I’m not sure yet.  I’d been wanting a trench for a long time, and I found one at Goodwill, so I’m pretty pumped.

I might be back later to post about something possibly non-outfit related, but we’ll see.  Until next time, have a great Sunday!
